Well, after 6.5 years I decided to take a long overdue and well deserved vacation. Being that I was on such a tight budget, (which I am sick and tired of), and being that I love to take pictures, I went camping at Salton Sea California, a place I had never been.
Salton Sea is desert location in the far southern inland part of California not to far north of the Baja border. It was originally part of the Gulf of California. Separated from the gulf by volcanic and seismic activity, the sea dried up. Later in time the sea was refilled by changes in the flow of the Colorado River. This took place several times over thousands of years. Then with the help of man, we have what you see today as the Slaton Sea.
The Salton Sea has a very high salt content, (25% higher then the ocean), and has a changing echo system resulting in cycles of the entire fish population dying off and then coming back. The beaches are covered in fish bones. Sounds worse then it is. The economic situation on the east side is nothing more then dim. All of the areas are all but abandoned due to these cycles and poor management. North Shore, Bombay Beach and other towns along the east coast are simply rotting away. They are very sad places as you will see in my photographs. Hopefully someday these area will return to their former glory. The sunsets are nothing less then breath taking and the desert and the Sea are of course always beautiful places.
Please enjoy!
